Chaos erupted in Sebastopol last night as a seemingly uncontrollable vehicle smashed into a fire hydrant, creating a spectacle when a geyser shot up 25 feet into the night sky, authorities said. The Sebastopol Police Department, alongside California Highway Patrol, and various fire crews were called to the scene on the 8000 block of Lynch Road after the car veered off the road and caused the unusual urban fountain before ending its rampage in a nearby yard. The Police Department and fire officials shut Lynch Road down due to a river of water flowing down the street.

The gushing water made quick work of the street's condition as officers and fire crews observed a two-inch-high current of water sweeping dirt and debris along the soaked asphalt. However, the unexpected water show didn't last long as Sebastopol Public Works moved swiftly to shut off the runaway hydrant, a statement from the Sebastopol Police Department explained.

"Upon arrival, a 25-foot-tall stream of water was shooting into the air," the Sebastian Police Department detailed in a Facebook post, painting a vivid picture of the disruption caused by the collision.

While Lynch Road was rendered impassable for a time, authorities managed to control the situation, though not before the property into which the vehicle crashed received an unexpected washdown. The driver's condition and the cause of the crash are under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
