A semi-truck incinerated into flames after slamming into an abandoned minivan along West Loop 820 in Fort Worth, creating a scene of destruction and triggering hours of traffic delays, according to police dispatchers.
Authorities reported the blaze erupted just before the morning rush hour on Tuesday, when the driver of the semi-truck seemingly lost control, veered to wildly cross multiple freeway lanes, and collided with the minivan left on the freeway shoulder, as per WFAA. In the aftermath, the mangled vehicles were engulfed in flames.
The driver of the semi-truck, who was able to scramble out of his vehicle, suffered injuries that were not expected to be life-threatening. No one was inside the minivan at the time of the accident, as confirmed by the Fort Worth Police Department. The reason behind the semi-truck driver's sudden loss of vehicular command remains a mystery, with officials yet to determine what spurred the crash.
Following the collision, the entrance on-ramp was closed, causing a bottleneck effect as northbound lanes were reduced to a single lane. Commuters found themselves ensnared in traffic snarls for several hours as investigators roamed the crash scene, according to Joel A. Gordon & Associates.
