Officers from the El Camino College Police Department and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau responded to a brutal sledgehammer attack that left a woman dead on the campus of El Camino College on Christmas Eve, Torrance detailed the Sheriff's Information Bureau. The assault took place around 7:08 a.m. on Sunday. The victim was described as an Asian female aged between 60 and 65, collecting recyclables when the attack unfolded.
The suspect, identified as Jeffery Davis, a 40-year-old Black male, was arrested by authorities near the college. It was unclear what the motivation behind the assault was or if there was a relationship between Davis and the victim. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner is set to determine the precise cause of death, according to KABC’s report.
Following the attack, the woman was transported to a local hospital and succumbed to her injuries the following day on December 25. The El Camino College Police Department and the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau took swift action in reviewing campus security footage and recognized Davis from previous encounters. They suspect he may be homeless, and they apprehended him at a nearby park for his alleged connection to the assault.
As the investigation continues, the Sheriff's Information Bureau has encouraged anyone with information about the incident to come forward. "Crime Stoppers" also provides a channel for anonymous tips through their hotline and an online platform.
