A man suspected of stabbing two family members died following an encounter with Dedham police on Wednesday night. Samuel Pattillo, 36, was pronounced dead after being taken into custody near a home on Jackson Pond Road, where police responded to a reported stabbing incident. According to NBC Boston, the two victims were adult relatives of Pattillo and are currently hospitalized with serious injuries.
The situation escalated when officers arrived at the scene around 6 p.m., finding two women with stab wounds and Pattillo in apparent distress. Walking along Country Club Road nearby, the man became hostile towards the police when they tried to intervene. According to CBS News Boston, force was used to subdue Pattillo, deploying pepper spray and a Taser.
Following the struggle, law enforcement officials noticed Pattillo exhibiting signs of physical distress. As reported by NBC Boston, "He appeared to be in distress when the neighbors started calling Dedham 911. When the police arrived, they saw the same individual and they tried to take him into custody using a variety of methods as we said to you and they noticed that he was in distress, rendered medical assistance and immediately transported him and when he got to the hospital, he was pronounced dead," stated Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey.
The authorities have not released the names of the women stabbed during the incident, nor have they provided details on who was responsible for the attack. The Norfolk District Attorney's Office indicated that firearms were not discharged by police during the incident. An autopsy is expected to be conducted to determine the exact cause of Pattillo's death, as per information from Hoodline.
As the Dedham community is shaken by the tragic outcome of the altercation, the case remains under investigation. While processing the crime scene for physical evidence, "State Police detectives from the District Attorney’s Office will be working through the night with troopers from the Crime Scene Services Section," Morrissey said in a statement obtained by NBC Boston. The results of the investigation are awaited as local residents deal with the aftermath of the upsetting events.
