A manhunt on the streets of Fairfield, CA, ended when police arrested a man with a dozen aliases who led them on a car chase before trying to escape on foot. The Fairfield Police Department reported that at approximately 2:34 pm on December 12, Officer Beedle attempted to stop a vehicle at the 2200 block of North Texas Street. The driver, later identified as James Coley III, aged 38, had other plans, engaging the police in a car chase.
With Coley behind the wheel, the vehicle tore through traffic heading north toward Alaska Avenue. After ditching the car, Coley dashed across Air Base Parkway, thinking fast feet would save him. However, the police outran Coley, catching him in short order. When initially confronted by law enforcement, Coley gave a false identity, according to the Fairfield, CA Police Department's Facebook post.
The arrest was not just a simple matter of evading police. Coley was wanted for a string of serious charges in Georgia. These included four counts each for armed robbery, carjacking, and violations of the Georgia "Street Gang Terrorism Act". The heavy warrants hung over Coley like a shadow that his aliases couldn't dispel. Moreover, additional warrants for Coley included limited extradition.
