The Sonata driver failed to comply with the signals to pull over, resulting in a vehicular pursuit. The car's tail lights were observed weaving through the night as it rapidly traveled eastward on 85th Ave N, executed a U-turn, and raced westward to intersect with Zane Ave N once again. The driver attempted to evade the police by returning to the Kensington Place Apartment Complex, but the vehicle collided with a retaining boulder, bringing the pursuit to an abrupt end.
The aftermath at the apartment complex entrance saw five suspects bail from the damaged vehicle and vanish into the darkness. Despite law enforcement's immediate response, all of the suspects remain at large. In the wake of their flight, they left behind a car with a broken window, and dashboard wires on display—a sign that the automobile's rightful place on the street had been compromised illegally.
Investigators looking over the wreck could discern the reasoning behind the officer's belief that the vehicle had been stolen. The Hyundai had not been reported missing at the time, according to the Brooklyn Park Police Department.
