A North Texas woman's second chance on bond turned fatal when she allegedly struck and killed a pedestrian while drunk behind the wheel. Gabriella Anchondo, 26, of Tarrant County, was arrested after the incident on suspicion of intoxication manslaughter. This arrest came just two weeks after Anchondo had been released on bond for a previous DWI charge, as reported by FOX 4 News.

The tragic event took place on Dec. 27, around 8:30 p.m. in the 4400 block of Booth Calloway, where emergency responders found the victim with "visible injuries". Despite life-saving efforts including CPR, the victim whose identity awaits release pending family notification, stopped breathing and was pronounced dead at a local hospital, per WFAA.

North Richland Hills Police confirmed that Anchondo had a history of DWI, with a prior conviction in Dallas County back in 2019 which led to a mandatory DWI education course. Now, Anchondo sits inside Tarrant County Jail once more, this time with a bond set at $75,000. The seriousness of her latest arrest is compounded by the death of an innocent person, and the troubling repetition of a dangerous pattern, as per WFAA.

The spokesperson for the police department indicated, that the victim was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries. Anchondo’s repeat offenses raise significant concerns about the efficacy of legal deterrents and the monitoring of individuals with known histories of driving under the influence.
