It was an emblematic day on December 15 for students at Texas A&M University Central Texas as they celebrated their graduation, a definitive step into their futures. One student in particular, Cruz Gonzalez, epitomized the perseverance and grit that led to receiving their diplomas. "Finally reaching the goal you didn't think was reachable is so incredible," Gonzalez told KENS 5 after the ceremony, after years of juggling academics and a heavy work schedule to support his family.

The graduation ceremony, held at the Cadence Bank Center, also symbolized a growing legacy for the institution, with university officials announcing that the number of degrees awarded by A&M-Central Texas since 2009 has increased to 10,489. As reported by the university's news, the fall 2023 commencement saw 283 degrees conferred, 222 of which were baccalaureate and 61 graduate degrees.

Interim President Dr. Richard M. Rhodes emphasized the significance of the event, stating, "Every graduate who puts on their cap and gown, takes their place in the procession into the ceremony, and walks across the stage is an inspiration to all of us." In a statement obtained by the university's news, he shared the sentiment that the graduates, many first-generation college students, are stepping into "a future of prosperity and pride in accomplishment."

While a majority of graduates are Central Texas locals, the university's online degree programs attracted students from 11 states outside of Texas. Steve Moore, Associate Vice Chancellor of Marketing and Communications from the Texas A&M University System, was in attendance to convey his congratulations. A&M-Central Texas, unique in its offer as the only public, upper-level university in Texas, continues to serve as a beacon for those looking to finish their undergraduate degrees. Enrollment is already underway for the spring semester, beginning January 16.
