In what seems to be a burgeoning tapestry of violence, the Third Ward of Houston has once again become the setting for a grim discovery. According to Click2Houston, a resident came face-to-face with mortality when an elevator door slid open at a local apartment complex to reveal a man's lifeless body, riddled with bullets. The incident occurred yesterday night in the 3710 block of Elgin Street.
Witnesses to the aftermath of violence: two security officers stationed at the apartment complex reported to police that the sound of gunfire had reached their ears. Running away from the crime scene, they later spotted two men. Adorned with firearms, one was clad in a black hoodie and the other in red, marked also by their mutual choice of gray pants. Houston Police investigators later confirmed finding numerous pistol casings and firearms inside the elevator where the victim was discovered.
Officers learned about another shooting near a Chevron gas station. Though the connection between this shooting and the elevator homicide is unclear as the investigation unfolds, it's concerning that the two incidents might be linked.
Another chapter of this unfortunate saga was written barely a day later. Behind an apartment complex in the 2400 block of Southmore close to Emancipation Avenue, a man's body was located, and the life in it was extinguished. As noted by ABC13, this discovery took place Wednesday night. The man, appearing to be in his 30s to early 40s, bore signs of a violent end, with injuries to his head as well as scrapes across his hands and feet. "Secluded" and "pretty hidden," these were the words used by HPD Lt. I. Izaguirre to describe the spot where his body was found lying in the area behind the building.
Officials are treating the recent case as a homicide and are looking for clues about the motive or any details about a suspect.
