In a devastating turn of events, a hit-and-run crash in Houston has claimed the life of James Midkiff, 36, who was critically injured on November 19 and has since succumbed to his injuries. According to the Houston Police Department, Midkiff was struck while riding his bicycle near a railway intersection at 1600 Houston Avenue, around 9:10 p.m.
Authorities indicate that the cyclist was hit from behind by what has only been described as a white sedan, which then made the conscious decision to not stop and render aid. The vehicle sped south on Houston Avenue, heading towards the North Freeway. Midkiff was rushed to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in what was described as a critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Midkiff was pronounced deceased three days later, on November 22.
The harrowing hit-and-run incident has prompted an intense search for the suspect driver, whose identity remains a mystery. As investigators work tirelessly to solve the case, they have reached out to the public, pleading for anyone with information about the suspect or the getaway vehicle to come forward. Sergeant D. Rose and Officer T. Syed of the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division have been leading the charge on this investigation.
To aid in capturing the individual responsible for this tragedy, the Houston police have put out a call to action, inviting tips that could help bring closure to James Midkiff’s bereaved family and friends. The police urge anyone who knows something to contact the HPD Hit and Run Unit directly at 713-247-4072. For those wishing to remain anonymous, there's the option to share what they know with Crime Stoppers by calling 713-222-TIPS. The hope is to gather enough evidence to not just track but also to bring to justice the person behind the wheel of the white sedan that fatal evening.
