Chaos ensued in Parker County near Aledo on Sunday morning when a Union Pacific train collided with an 18-wheeler that got stuck on the tracks. The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that the incident happened shortly before 10:00 a.m. near Farm Road 5 in Annetta, leading to the derailment of two train engines and 17 cars in a wreck that snarled traffic and summoned emergency services to the scene, according to FOX 4 News.
According to a release from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the truck, bearing an oversized load, was southbound when it unfortunately got lodged on the railroad line. The train, heading toward Fort Worth, was unable to avoid the semi and made an impactful contact, shearing metal and toppling train cars like dominoes, according to Yahoo News.
The collision resulted in minor injuries to the train conductor, who was quickly transported to Texas Health Hospital Willow Park for treatment. On the condition of the truck driver, details have not been released. Local authorities are working diligently to clear the remnants of the crash, and Farm Road 5 was slated to be inaccessible to traffic until midnight.
Crews rolled out to clear the tracks and the scattered remains of both trains and freight carriers, with disruption expected to linger well into the night. The route was anticipated to reopen after the thorough completion of the cleanup and investigation.
