Christmas morning turned grim in DeKalb County as authorities are piecing together details from two fatal incidents involving pedestrians. In one case, a pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle on Memorial Drive near Hambrick Road, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. DeKalb County Police responded around 3:45 a.m. to the tragic scene on Christmas, where the victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, met their untimely end while crossing the road.
At a separate location, not far from the Scott Candler Library, another heartbreaking situation unfolded. The victim was reportedly crossing Candler Road near Eastwood Drive when they were struck by an unknown dark-colored vehicle. In a sadly similar fashion, this driver also fled the scene, leaving behind little for authorities to work with. Officers arrived shortly before 4 a.m. following the hit-and-run, as noted by 11Alive.
The first incident's emergency responders acted promptly, getting the victim to a local hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries. The investigative efforts continue, with the DeKalb County Police Department's traffic specialists examining the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
Contrastingly, the situation on Candler Road remains shrouded in uncertainty as detectives seek out the elusive perpetrator of the deadly hit-and-run. The victim was also taken to the hospital but declared dead upon arrival. "The driver took off before officers arrived on scene," the DeKalb Police lamented. The department encourages anyone with information to come forward, as every detail could be crucial to their ongoing investigations.
