Tragedy struck Pompano Beach on a Monday night as two men lost their lives in a convenience store shooting. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. in the store located at the intersection of Northwest Fourth Street and 27 Avenue. Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) deputies rushed to the scene following reports of gun violence and a commotion linked to a nearby street party, as described by Local 10 News.
The victims, identified by authorities as Quaavon Ellis and Brandon McNair, were found with life-threatening injuries. Despite the rapid intervention from paramedics with Pompano Beach Fire Rescue, both men succumbed to their wounds after being transported to an area hospital. A shooting inside the convenience store escalated from an altercation between the suspect and the two men, leading to this fatal outcome.
BSO investigators, including Homicide and Crime Scene units, are actively piecing together the events that led to the deaths of Ellis and McNair. Details about the shooter were withheld by the police owing to Marcy’s Law, but officials confirmed the suspect is currently in custody. "The preliminary investigation reveals that an altercation occurred between the shooter and the two individuals and shots were fired inside the store," a BSO official stated in reports shared by both CBS News Miami and Local 10 News.
While the investigation continues, detectives plan to present their findings to the Broward County State Attorney’s Office for further review. As part of their ongoing efforts, BSO has called on the community for any information that could shed light on the tragic events. Deputies are urging witnesses or anyone with knowledge about the incident to contact BSO Homicide. The lives of Ellis and McNair, lost in a moment's eruption of violence, now form the center of a community's quest for answers and justice.
