A brazen theft unfolded on Christmas Eve when an unhoused man, aged 30, allegedly made off with nearly $2,000 worth of merchandise from a Colma business. According to the Colma Police Department, the suspect executed his heist around 6:53 pm in the 5000 block of Junipero Serra Boulevard, escaping through the fire exit doors with stolen goods, including the bicycle he was later apprehended on.
Sources indicate that after receiving the theft report, the Colma officers swiftly responded and spotted the male cycling his way through the shopping center's parking lot. Despite their attempts to detain him, the suspect refused to halt and kept pedaling until the officers successfully intercepted and detained him. It was later confirmed by the business' loss prevention staff that the man was indeed the thief in question.
Further investigation led to the discovery of drug paraphernalia, a controlled substance, and burglary tools on the suspect during a search incident to arrest. The man's loot, totaling approximately $1,988.15, also included the bicycle he attempted to flee on.
Facing multiple charges comprising grand theft, resisting a peace officer, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of burglary tools, the culprit was booked into the San Mateo County Jail, presumably to await further legal proceedings.
