Vallejo Police Department apprehended a convicted felon for possessing a stolen vehicle and a firearm on December 17, as per their official statement. The detention occurred after officers spotted a stolen 2007 Toyota Rav4 at the intersection of Georgia St. and Steffan St., which a records check confirmed as stolen from Sacramento. The police initiated a felony traffic stop, and the two individuals in the car, a driver and a passenger, were detained without resistance.
The responding officers conducted a thorough investigation at the scene; during this process, they discovered an unserialized firearm in the backseat of the vehicle. Both individuals claimed ignorance of its existence, and the driver and passenger were Mirandized. The driver gave troublesome responses about his motives, saying he was running errands yet refusing to reveal the vehicle's owner. At the same time, the passenger professed he had no idea that the car was hot.
Further checks revealed that the passenger had no outstanding warrants or wants, leading to his release from the scene. The driver, however, was found to be a convicted felon and was arrested for having control of both the stolen car and the firearm, as detailed in the police department's Facebook post.
After the arrest, the stolen Rav4 was towed away for evidence processing, and the firearm was secured and entered into evidence. Meanwhile, the owner of the stolen vehicle was notified concerning the status of their car. The suspect was transported to the county jail for booking as the Vallejo Police Department.
