In Vallejo, a routine traffic stop turned into an arrest when a woman was taken into custody for the possession of a firearm found in her car. According to the Vallejo Police Department, an officer spotted a black 2021 Dodge Challenger driving erratically on December 15, raising suspicions of drunk driving.
Upon pulling the vehicle over on Lemon St. and Sonoma Blvd., the officer conducted a sobriety check on the driver, who claimed she was distracted by her cell phone, not inebriated. A records check found that she had never been issued a driver's license, leading to her detention by the police, as stated in a Vallejo Police Department Facebook post.
The driver was placed in the patrol car's rear while the police prepared to tow the Dodge Challenger. During an inventory search of the vehicle, the officer found a firearm tucked behind the driver's seat. The discovery of the gun prompted further inquiry, resulting in the woman's admission, post-Miranda, that the weapon belonged to her sibling.
With the vehicle towed and the gun entered into evidence, the Vallejo Police Department concluded the incident by booking the female driver into the county jail.
