A Vista man has been apprehended for allegedly brandishing a "ghost gun" at several individuals at a movie theater parking lot, officials report.

The San Diego County Sheriff's Department stated that the incident unfolded on the evening of December 5, around 11:00 p.m., at the cinema on 25 Main Street, where the suspect appeared to threaten people with the untraceable weapon after driving haphazardly, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department.

Authorities say that when deputies from the Vista Sheriff's Station arrived on the scene, they spotted the suspect behind the theater, and upon attempting an arrest, the man fled on foot. He was eventually found approximately one mile away, on Eucalyptus Avenue.

A subsequent search of the suspect's vehicle uncovered a loaded ghost gun rigged for automatic fire, along with a high-capacity magazine and additional ammunition. The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Jeremy Fuerte, now faces a slew of felony charges, including assault with a deadly weapon and illegal possession of a ghost gun. He's been locked up at the Vista Detention Facility, stewing on the charges.

The arrest marks yet another seizure of a ghost gun by the Vista Gang Enforcement Team in 2023, which has reportedly confiscated a total of 17 such firearms this year. Sergeant Michael Hanks of the San Diego Sheriff's Department could be contacted for additional information regarding the case.
