West Springfield law enforcement officials are on the hunt for a hit-and-run driver who plowed into a 15-year-old boy. The West Springfield Police Traffic Bureau is urging the public to provide any helpful evidence from personal surveillance footage, as reported on the department's Facebook page.
Yesterday, at about 4:52 pm, the teen was running through the crosswalk at the intersection of Piper Rd. and Amostown Rd. According to the police, it was then that a white SUV, turning left onto Amostown Road, struck the young runner and, shockingly, sped away without giving regard to the teen's well-being.
Fortunately, the impact only caused minor injuries to the boy, and he was later taken to the hospital by family members for a check-up. The police are now focusing their efforts on gathering video evidence that might shed light on the identity of the white SUV driver. Residents in proximity to the accident scene, specifically along Piper Rd. and Amostown Rd., are being asked to comb through their video surveillance for any potential leads.
"We are asking residents who live in the Piper Rd and Amostown Rd. area of town to check their video surveillance systems for any video that could help us identify the vehicle involved," said the traffic bureau in their request for assistance from the community. Anyone with information related to this incident is advised to contact Officer Shawn Knox at 263-3210 Ext. 228, the West Springfield Police implored.
