A burglary call in White Bear Lake ended in tragedy on Thursday when one person was found dead from a gunshot wound inside a residence. The White Bear Lake Police Department responded to the scene after being alerted to a possible burglary at the 1800 block of Highway 96 East.
Upon arrival around 1:00 p.m., officers were greeted outside the home by the resident who had managed to safely exit the premises amid the unfolding crisis. Law enforcement endeavors to then make verbal contact with the suspect were met with silence. The decision to tactically enter the home revealed the grim discovery, according to a report by KARE 11.
The course of events that led to the fatality remains hazy, and as of now, police have not confirmed whether the deceased was the intruder or another individual inadvertently caught amid the burglary. "Officers attempted to make verbal contact with the suspect, but there was no response," KARE 11 outlined.
Meanwhile, authorities have taken steps to assure the community that there is no broader threat to public safety in the wake of the shooting. "The incident is under investigation. Police do not believe there is a threat to the public," shared CBS News Minnesota.
