The advisory cautions about limited ice accumulation risk and a limited snow risk, with freezing drizzle turning to snow, which could lead to hazardous conditions, particularly east of I-355.
Meanwhile, a specific alert points to the dangerous conditions for 'small craft' on the nearshore waters of Lake Michigan with the potential for such hazardous conditions to linger into the new year said the National Weather Service. As Chicago looks at a forecast that includes snow likely possibly mixed with rain before it all turns to snow after 11:00 p.m. the temperature dropping to a low around 29 degrees and amid such chilly predictions. Chicago residents can take some solace as a mostly sunny New Year's Day is expected with highs nudging slightly above freezing.
The weather advisory is effective until noon for multiple counties including Cook in Illinois and parts of Indiana reports CBS Chicago. Affirming a light accumulation of snow is expected to cap off the year the advisory further emphasizes minor icing due to freezing drizzle serves as a potential hazard for those hitting the roads for their New Year's Eve celebrations.
The city can look forward to a week of partly to mostly cloudy skies and fairly consistent high temperatures in the 30 degrees, according to National Weather Service, which provides detailed projections. It shows the temperature is set to hover around the mid to upper 30 degrees through the week with nighttime lows dipping below freezing and Tuesday may see the wind picking up with gusts that could reach up to 30 mph though the rest of the week is expected to remain relatively tranquil.
