A 69-year-old woman was tragically killed in a crash near a holiday event in Coronado earlier this month, officials have confirmed. The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as Cynthia Lorraine Guiten, who suffered fatal injuries after being struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the street.
The incident occurred on the evening of December 1, when Guiten was crossing 5th Street and hit by an eastbound Chevrolet sports utility vehicle, according to FOX 5 San Diego. The driver of the Chevrolet remained at the scene and alerted the authorities, cooperating with the subsequent investigation. Guiten was transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital but was later pronounced dead due to multiple blunt force injuries, as announced by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
The crash occurred around 6:50 p.m., roughly two blocks from the bustling Coronado Holiday Parade route, which had begun at 6 p.m. that Friday. Coronado Police Department reported that driving under the influence was not suspected of contributing to this accident. The annual parade featuring tree lighting and the procession had gathered locals and tourists along Orange Avenue heading towards the Hotel del Coronado.
