A Worcester man was nabbed by local police on December 12 following a dramatic chase, moments after he allegedly threatened a citizen with a loaded gun in a botched bank robbery attempt. The Worcester Police Department reported that officers apprehended 42-year-old Javier Camacho after receiving a call about a possible heist at M&T Bank on Front St.
When authorities arrived at the scene around 9:07 AM, they spotted Camacho across the street, fitting the bill of a suspect description provided by eyewitnesses. Responding to the officers' approach, the suspect attempted to flee, inadvertently setting off a foot chase after a gun was spotted on his person, as detailed by police statements.
Interviews with witnesses at the bank confirmed that Camacho had brandished the firearm and demanded money, threatening someone in the process. After a brief pursuit, officers caught up with Camacho, securing a loaded handgun in his possession and arresting him.
Camacho is now facing multiple charges including Kidnapping, Extortion, Attempted Armed Robbery, and an array of firearms-related charges, as per the official police report. He was taken into custody without further incident, contradicting the peaceful morning that had just been shattered by the sound of sirens and the specter of violence.
