A routine traffic stop in Worcester turned into an arrest when local police recovered an illegal handgun from a motorist this Monday morning. Worcester Police, part of the city's Shooting Response Team, were patrolling near Front Street when they spotted a vehicle committing a traffic violation by making an unlawful left turn, according to a Worcester police report.
The officer recognized the driver, Kevin Jean, a 32-year-old from Auburn, and called for backup before approaching the Mercedes. Jean failed to produce a license or registration and began reaching towards the glove box, prompting the officer to wait for additional units, as detailed in a press release from the Worcester Police Department.
Upon the arrival of backup, officers instructed Jean to exit the vehicle. Despite initial resistance and arguments, Jean complied and was taken out of his car. Police subsequently discovered an open bottle of vodka and a loaded handgun inside the Mercedes.
Jean, who does not possess a valid firearms license, was arrested and is facing multiple charges, including Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, and Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm and Ammunition without an FID Card. The list of charges also includes Possession of an Open Container of Alcohol, revealing a blatant disregard for Massachusetts gun and alcohol laws.
