Worcester Police cuffed a 20-year-old miscreant yesterday after he made off with a car left conveniently running in a local driveway, only to batter the vehicle’s owner and slam into another parked car in his hasty getaway. According to a police report, the perpetrator, identified as Carlos Torres of Suffield Street, faced the consequences shortly after his smash-and-grab performance.

Around 8:05 a.m. on Thursday, Worcester's finest were summoned to Woodbine St. Upon their arrival, there was a black Honda that was left unintended. Witnesses described how a male interloper slipped into the driver’s seat to quickly try and disappear into the steel landscape. The vehicle's rightful owner, alerted by the fracas, emerged from his domicile to pound on the window. The accused allegedly struck the owner with the car before fleeing the scene.

Officers issued BOLO information. At approximately 9:15 AM, officers located the stolen chariot on Endicott St. and placed Torres under arrest. He is charged with Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (Motor Vehicle), Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Injury, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Property Damage.

No other injuries were reported.
