In a disturbing case out of southwest Miami-Dade, authorities are offering a hefty reward for information leading to the capture of those responsible for the theft and brutal killing of two local horses. As reported by Local 10 News, Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers and the Homestead Rodeo Association have pooled their resources, announcing a $10,000 incentive for tips that can assist in the arrest of the culprits.
Muneco and Baby Doll, aged 10 and 6 respectively, were stolen from their home earlier this month their remains were found just yards away from where they lived, signaling a grim end for these two equine companions. According to CBS News Miami, the gruesome discovery of the animals' carcasses occurred near 20641 SW 168 Street, the scene reflecting a cruel and illegal butchering, presumably for their flesh which has a black market in the area, despite being against Florida laws.
Martha Insignares, the owner of the slain horses, shared with CBS News Miami her heartbreak over the incident, "I don't know what to say. This is like a nightmare that I'm living. My horses are my family." Expressing the sentiment of the community, Georgina Milhet, a local activist, decried the savage acts and demanded action, "We need help," she implored, also revealing that this is not an isolated event, with similar horse slaughters having racked the neighborhood recently.
The police, committed to stemming this murky tide of equine killings, are calling upon the community for any information while cautioning against the illicit horse meat market, "If anyone approached you to sell you horse meat, we are urging you to call Crime Stoppers," said Miami-Dade Police spokesperson Andre Martin, ensuring anonymity to potential informants.
