The streets of Santa Rosa have become a stark tableau for gang violence after the Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD) made additional arrests in connection with the attempted murder of a 41-year-old man. A total of 10 suspects, including seven high school students, are now in custody following the violent incident that unfolded near Bellevue Ranch Park earlier this month. In a recent news release from the SRPD, the department revealed the arrest of four more individuals affiliated with gang activity linked to the brutal stabbing that took place on January 11.
The operation, led by the SRPD's Gang Crimes Team, was part of an ongoing investigation that has now seen four additional suspects identified and taken into custody. According to the department, the arrests were a result of analyzing video footage and digital evidence. Detectives recognized the four from prior arrests and confirmed their active participation in the crime through video evidence. Among those arrested was 18-year-old Anthony Hernandez, as well as three other juveniles, as reported by SRPD's official communication. All suspects were charged with attempted murder, robbery, participating in a criminal street gang, and gang enhancement.
Hoodline detailed the events leading to the stabbing, recounting that the victim was assaulted by a group of up to 15 juveniles after a heated exchange. He suffered 8 to 10 stab wounds, including a severe cut close to his spine. It was only the intervention of a passing driver and quick action by local residents that saved the man's life.
Investigations into gang-related violence have led to a deeper look into the suspects' backgrounds. It has emerged that all six of the initially arrested suspects were students, with one attending Pivot Charter School, and the others associated with Elsie Allen High School. Evidence gathered from the crime scene and subsequent searches at the suspects' homes included knives, gang paraphernalia, and electronic devices. A 16-year-old suspect was discovered to have had a disassembled firearm in his possession, along with a 3D printer at his home suspected of being used to make firearm parts, "Hoodline" reported.
