An 18-year-old man was fatally shot inside his vehicle Tuesday night at a West Side apartment complex in what police are calling a suspected ambush, San Antonio authorities say. The incident took place just before 9:30 p.m. at the Westway Apartments located at the 5600 block of Culebra Road, as per KSAT.
The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was shot multiple times and was later pronounced dead at an area hospital. According to a report by KENS 5, the teen and his girlfriend were returning to her apartment to drop off items from a shopping trip when the ambush occurred. Upon her exit from the vehicle, the attackers opened fire, striking the young man and causing his girlfriend to dive back into the car for cover.
The San Antonio police reported that the suspects, described as two men in black, fled the scene following the shooting. As of now, the motive for a crime remains unknown, and the authorities have not provided a description of the suspects or their vehicle. The girlfriend of the deceased teen was either grazed by a bullet or scratched by glass during the incident but survived the attack.
Emergency services, including the San Antonio Police Department, the San Antonio Fire Department, and EMS, responded to the call promptly, but the efforts to save the teen’s life were futile. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, as SAPD detectives work to piece together the events that led to the young man's tragic end. As details continue to unfold, the community is left grappling with the ripples of violence that took one of its young members.
