A 24-year-old man's life came to a tragic end after an early morning crash on Interstate 10 in San Antonio, where he was ejected from his truck and pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. The single-vehicle accident occurred shortly after 3 a.m. yesterday, when the driver lost control and struck a concrete barrier, as reported by KSAT.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was traversing IH-10 West and, according to police, attempted to take the exit ramp to De Zavala Road but instead his truck careened across the main lanes hit the barrier and led to his immediate ejection from the vehicle, the police investigation into the crash is ongoing and it remains unclear what exactly precipitated the loss of control. FOX San Antonio reported that a TxDOT emergency response patrol discovered the accident scene.
The northbound and southbound lanes of the highway were shut down for multiple hours following the incident as emergency crews, including EMS and police, responded to the site. This closure was necessary to facilitate an extensive investigation into what measures or malfunctions might have contributed to the accident's occurrence.
"Police say it's unclear what lead up to the accident," but it was clear the man suffered fatal injuries after being ejected from the vehicle, FOX San Antonio stated, with investigators looking into all possible angles, including vehicle malfunction, road conditions, or driver impairment as part of their routine procedure when dealing with fatal incidents of this nature.
