A yacht began taking on water off the coast of Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday, prompting a response from local fire rescue crews. The situation unfolded near the upscale neighborhood of Fort Royal Isle and Northeast 34th Avenue. According to Local 10, the vessel, identified as the 115-foot Motor Yacht Pour Another, listed at $5.2 million, experienced a bilge pump malfunction that left it partially submerged.
Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue was dispatched to the scene around 11 a.m., where Sky 10 aerial footage captured a team of roughly a dozen including, a private contractor and divers, tackling the bilge pump issue. The bilge pump, responsible for removing water from the yacht's hull, had reportedly become obstructed. The ensuing overflow was enough to destabilize the craft.
The yacht was subsequently refloated successfully, with no reported injuries from the incident. In a report by WSVN, the yacht's recovery began early morning around 4 a.m., as crews worked to address the fault that had occurred with the bilge pump. Upon stabilization of the yacht, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue vacated the scene and reported a potential fuel leak to the U.S. Coast Guard, and the City of Fort Lauderdale.
The yacht, Pour Another, was built back in 2003 and is currently on the luxury market through Fraser Yachts. The incident brought to light the hidden failures that can beset even the most opulent of vessels — mechanical errors indistinguishable from those that trouble crafts of lesser stature. Although the outcome was favorable, the episode serves as a cautionary tale for seafarers to remain vigilant about vessel maintenance and preparedness in the face of unforeseen equipment failures.
