A tragic incident unfolded on the streets of San Marcos early Thursday morning when a 59-year-old Hispanic man was hit and killed by a silver Dodge Ram truck. The accident occurred at the intersection of East Mission Road and Mulberry Drive, as the San Diego County Sheriff's Department reported. The pedestrian was in the west crosswalk of East Mission Road when he was struck by the eastbound vehicle.
The driver of the Dodge Ram, a 61-year-old man, immediately stopped and called 911 seeking help. Despite the rapid response of San Marcos Fire Department Paramedics, the victim’s injuries proved fatal on the scene. The Medical Examiner's office arrived shortly after to conduct the necessary procedures, an unfortunate routine where roads become the corridors of last breaths.
According to the official statement obtained by the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, the identity of the Hispanic male will be determined following an investigation by the Medical Examiner’s office, which is also tasked with notifying the next of kin.
The investigation into the cause of what turned into a lethal interaction between a pedestrian and a vehicle is ongoing. The San Marcos Traffic Unit is leading the charge and is calling for any witnesses with information to come forward. Concerned citizens with knowledge pertinent to the case are encouraged to dial (760) 510-5200 to assist in shedding light on this devastating event.
