Baseball fans and Arlington community members swung into action this morning as the city, in partnership with the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation, Major League Baseball, and players Corey and Mady Seager, broke ground on a field of dreams. The MLB & Texas Rangers All-Star Legacy Park, which includes the Corey Seager Batting Cages, is the first initiative announced for the 2024 All-Star Legacy project. The goal? A home-run transformation of the nearly 72-year-old Senter Park into a state-of-the-art facility for young ballplayers.
The All-Star Legacy initiative is part of the broader MLB Together effort, a collaboration between Major League Baseball and the host club of the All-Star Game aimed at leaving a lasting mark on the host community. With an expected completion date of July 1, 2024, the renovations are not just about sprucing up a ballfield, but about "making opportunities for our youth to pursue their American dreams are brighter when we work together," said City of Arlington Mayor Jim Ross in a statement.
Under the bright Texas sun, the groundbreaking ceremony was a veritable lineup of community and industry players. Among them were Arlington Mayor Jim Ross, City Council Member Rebecca Boxall, and Neil Leibman, who remarked, "It’s the beginning of several life-changing Legacy project initiatives led by the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation," according to the City of Arlington's news release. Upgrades to the park include tech-savvy batting cages, lush turf for two baseball fields, and a host of other amenities. All aimed at ensuring that Arlington's youth have premium facilities to enjoy America's favorite pastime.
Shedding light on the financial backing and support for the project, the City of Arlington, Arlington Tomorrow Foundation, and local organizations have stepped up to the plate—alongside the Seagers and the Texas Rangers. The initiative is being recognized as a game-changer by none other than April Brown, MLB’s Senior Vice President of Social Responsibility. She shared, "This special Midsummer Classic effort is an opportunity to thank our All-Star host community for all they do to support one of our sport’s grandest stages." The promise of new scoreboards, bleachers, and a safer parking setup, as outlined on the city's website, checks all the boxes for a major league win for local kids.
And this is just the opening inning. More initiatives are on deck to enhance areas within the Metroplex, courtesy of the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation and Major League Baseball. Fans and locals are counting the days until the 94th MLB All-Star Game takes place at Globe Life Field, where the spirit of community and sport will unite under the bright lights and an even brighter future for Arlington's next generation of athletes.
