With the Dallas Cowboys scheduled for a Sunday showdown against the Green Bay Packers, both the team and the City of Arlington are bracing to tackle extreme weather conditions expected to hit North Texas. Arlington officials have mobilized to fend off the ice and snow, ensuring that roads leading to AT&T Stadium are navigable for the fans flooding in to cheer on their team.
Public works crews in Arlington have been working diligently to pre-treat bridges and highways, preparing for a forecasted arctic blast. "We have citizens from all over DFW coming to the game, so the goal is to provide safe roadways to get them in and out on Sunday," Arlington's Field Operations Manager, Shea Sumner, said. The city is going to great lengths, utilizing a brine mixture aimed to prevent icy build-ups on critical infrastructure, according to FOX 4 News.
While the Cowboys representatives confirmed to Fox 4 that they're fully equipped to handle any inclement conditions affecting the fans and staff, the event's organizers aren't taking any chances. There's also special attention being paid to pedestrian areas, with sand and salt on standby to ensure attendees can safely make it to and from the stadium.
The city "will sand the walkways" and has plans to keep staff warm, adjusting staffing to limit exposure to the bitter cold. Weather-willing, Sunday's game promises to be a cozy affair for fans, complete with the assurance of secure transport to witness the gridiron action, per WFAA.
Diehard fans like Philip Butticarlo, a season ticket holder, are undeterred by the freeze. "The weather has no factor whatsoever. This game could be outside and I would be there," Butticarlo declared. His determination is a testament to the football spirit in Arlington – a city that intends to make sure the game goes on, whatever the weather may render, according to WFAA.
