The East Arlington Police Service Center, along with several other city facilities, has seen its parking lots upgraded to LED lighting. The switch to more energy-efficient lighting is part of Arlington's efforts to modernize and cut costs, as confirmed by the city's recent announcements on its official website.

Over the past three years, the city's Asset Management crews have been hard at work retrofitting over 100 lights across various public facility parking lots, transitioning from metal halide bulbs to LEDs, which is expected to slash energy costs by 50%. The upgrades at the East Arlington station alone included 23 lights, according to Joe Bowman, Asset Management facility services manager, said upgrades deliver improved light quality and have the additional benefit of lasting longer than traditional bulbs thus reducing maintenance demands which is an essential cutback for a growing city like Arlington.

But the East police station is not the only facility bathing in the economical glow of LEDs. Locations such as the Front Street public parking lot, the North Park and Ride lot, and the South Service Center have seen similar improvements. Public facility parking lots managed by the Parks and Recreation Department have also undergone this transition, though they were not included in the initial report.

The city's detailed progression towards LED usage is a calculated step not only respecting the current financial landscape but also looking towards a sustainable future.
