In a move that signals the end of an era for the Atlanta Falcons, Arthur Smith met with his former players for the last time at the team's practice facility, following his dismissal as head coach. Smith, who failed to break a string of 7-10 seasons, was let go in a decision announced in the witching hour of Sunday night, with the Falcons organization deciding that player support alone doesn’t win championships.
Despite the backing of his squad, Smith's consistent mediocrity on the gridiron proved to be a decisive factor in the Falcons' choice to head in a new direction. Within the facility's walls Monday, emotions and appreciation ran high as Smith took the opportunity to bid adieu to his team, as per The Douglas County Sentinel.
Adding to this narrative, rookie defensive lineman Zach Harrison shared his perspective on the poignant farewell. "Most of us already knew," Harrison recounted, elaborating on the meeting's atmosphere: "Just having the chance for him to get up there and address us and tell us the last couple of things he wanted to say before he left. It meant a lot to me that he stood up there and looked us all in the eye and told us some things", as reported by AP News.
