Facing an incoming significant temperature drop, Atlanta Gas Light crews are on alert and ready to tackle any issues that harsh weather may bring, including the ever-dreaded frozen gas lines or heating malfunctions. "If the heat goes out, call the gas company’s emergency line for repairs at 1-877-427-4321," an Atlanta Gas Light representative urged customers. Also, they say, if you're in need of immediate warmth, opt for a UL-approved space heater and never try to heat your home with your kitchen stove, since this dangerous move could fill your living space with carbon monoxide.
There's also a concern for the meters themselves. As spokesperson Holly Lovett pointed out during an interview with Atlanta News First, customers may spot their meters encased in ice and feel compelled to de-ice them, which can backfire. "They’ll see it frozen and iced over with icicles. Their first reaction is to get all of that off. Please do not do that," Lovett explained.
