An Atlanta mother's soul has been shattered following the fatal shooting of her teen son. Lakesha Lowe's 18-year-old son, Thomas J. Lowe, was killed on January 13, in the early hours, at a southwest Atlanta apartment complex on Campbellton Road. "You took away my soul. You took away my best friend. My best friend. All of my kids are my best friends. You took away my soul. You took away my heart," a heartbroken Lakesha Lowe said in a WSBTV interview.
According to police, when responding to the incident that night after 3 a.m., two people were discovered shot. Thomas Lowe was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 16-year-old was also shot and taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. "My son didn’t sell drugs. He wasn’t in the streets. He didn’t do none of that," Lakesha remarked on the events that led to her son’s death, casting doubts on the motivations behind the tragic outcome, in the interview obtained by WSBTV.
The older sibling, Nykeria Lowe, described the agony of losing a nephew so dear to her children, saying, "It's been hard, especially on my kids, because he was really close to all my kids." Atlanta authorities are actively seeking a suspect but the case remains unsolved as found in reports by FOX 5 Atlanta. Jamarcus Lowe, Thomas' brother, expressed his anguish to FOX 5 Atlanta, indicating that Thomas was "the other half of my heart, literally."
To alleviate the financial strain brought by Thomas’ sudden death, the Lowe family has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral expenses. As investigators continue to piece together the details of what transpired, the Atlanta Police Department is urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. "Why did you shoot my baby?" Lakesha Lowe directly questioned her son's unidentified killer, a plea she made during the WSB Tonight interview to bring her some semblance of closure.
