Hays County, in partnership with Austin Pets Alive! (APA!), has launched a new strike against pet homelessness and shelter overcrowding with the opening of a virtual pet resource center. This center is part of the expansion of APA!'s Positive Alternatives to Shelter Surrender (P.A.S.S.) program, now reaching the residents of Hays County to help them maintain the cherished bond with their pets, according to KXAN.

The online resource aims to offer a comprehensive guide for pet owners struggling to keep their animals home and out of shelters. "Extending the P.A.S.S. program to Hays County provides a virtual resource center to community members," Lee Ann Shenefiel, Austin Pets Alive! Executive Advisor and Project Coordinator, as per KXAN.

Focusing on the practicalities, the initiative seeks to streamline the process of acquiring help. "The goal is to make it easier for people to access resources and information in one place," said Alex Villalobos, Hays County Chief of Staff. With this virtual hub, efforts are being dialed up to lower the occupancy at the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter by encouraging people to find ways to keep their pets in their homes, as reported by San Marcos Record.
