A juvenile was apprehended with a firearm at a school in Back Bay, causing alarm and raising questions about youth access to weapons. On Wednesday morning, officers from District D-4 were quickly on the scene after being alerted to the situation by school staff. The officers were on the scene at approximately 11:40 AM, according to the Boston Police Department.
The staff had received a tip that the student may to be in possession of a gun, a tip that proved accurate when they discovered a Taurus firearm with ammunition loaded in the student's backpack. The BPD reported that the weapon contained ten rounds in the magazine. The 15-year-old student was arrested and is facing multiple firearms charges.
Charges against the young male include delinquent to wit unlawful possession of a firearm, ammunition, a large capacity feeding device, and he also faces the serious charge of unlawful possession of a firearm on school grounds. These events underscore an ongoing societal challenge—the presence of firearms in educational institutions and the impact on public safety.
The juvenile, whose identity has not been disclosed due to his age, is expected to be arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court. The case pushes us to question how these youths come quickly to possess such weapons and what measures could be taken to prevent future occurrences.
