Bostonians, brace yourselves for a week of typical winter chill as forecasts show temperatures taking a dip with mostly cloudy skies. According to the National Weather Service, Tuesday's temps have taken a nosedive, staying sub-freezing during the afternoon as a cold front makes itself at home in the area.
Underneath a blanket of clouds, today sees the mercury falling to around 27 by the late afternoon, with a northeast wind tagging along at 7 to 9 mph. Tonight promises more of the same cloudy sky with calm winds and a low hovering around 21 degrees. As we move into Wednesday, partly sunny skies will try to warm things up with a high near 38 degrees, but a west southwest wind at a gentle 3 to 7 mph don't do much to shake off the chill.
NBC Boston reports that Tuesday night is prepped for another deep freeze with lows expected in the teens and low 20s, under a mostly clear sky looking down. But there is a hint of relief as Wednesday shakes off some of the frosty edge, bouncing back to the mid and upper 30s.
Looking towards Thursday, Bostonians won't need to bundle up quite as tightly, with mostly cloudy skies and a high near 43. The southwest wind flirts around 10 mph. However, as the weekend inches closer, don't let go of your winter coats just yet. Thursday night could see temps falling back to around 32, and another shot of cold air is set to reinforce the winter vibe over the weekend, as noted by the National Weather Service.
The good news is that no major storms are lining up to pummel the city through the weekend, giving the people of Boston a well-deserved break after the fourth wettest January on record, with over 7 ½ inches of precipitation. Expect a sunny Saturday with highs near 35, while Sunday follows suit with clear skies and a repeat high of around 35. Moving into Monday, the sun is still holding strong with highs expected to hover around 35 once again. Stargazers can enjoy mostly clear nights with lows in the low 20s throughout the weekend.
