On the 8th of January, the Boston Police Department established a temporary office at South Station during the morning rush hour with the intention of recruiting new members for their police force.
In their latest push to swell the ranks, officers from the B-1 Community Service Team took their recruitment drive to one of the busiest hubs in the Hub. The evening event targeted rush-hour commuters, who might be considering a career switch. According to a press release, "On Monday, January 8, 2024, Officers assigned to the A-1 Community Service Team conducted a second recruiting outreach event at South Station during the evening commute to help drive recruitment for the upcoming Massachusetts Civil Service Exam." This event is part of a series that the BPD has been running, as they aspire to add to their storied force - the oldest in America.
Those interested in taking up the badge have a ticking clock to beat, with the Civil Service Exam application deadline looming on January 16th. The BPD is casting a wide net, welcoming applicants to step forward and join their ranks. All the details for the application can be found through an available online portal provided by the department.
This recruitment outreach by the Boston Police isn’t a new tactic. It reflects a nationwide trend where law enforcement agencies are getting creative in their recruiting strategies against the backdrop of a challenging job market and scrutinizing public discourse around policing practices.
