The Boston Police Department is ramping up its efforts to beef up the ranks. In a recruitment drive held Thursday, January 11, at the West Roxbury YMCA, officers from the E-5 Community Service Team went to work, not to solve crime, but to sell a career in law enforcement. This drive is a call to those ready to serve on the front lines of America's oldest police force.
Those with aspirations of wearing the badge have until January 16, 2024, to throw their hat in the ring. The department is encouraging potential recruits to quickly apply to take the Civil Service Exam — a necessary step to join the force. The Boston Police has made it a point to easily reach out and to securely coax community members into considering law enforcement as a viable path.
"If you’re interested in a career in law enforcement and want to join the first established police force in America, go apply for the Civil Service Exam today," the call to action was posted on the official Boston Police website. A direct link to the application page accompanies their invite, simplifying the process for interested individuals.
The police recruitment initiative speaks to a broader effort by the BPD to integrate more deeply into the communities they serve. By hosting these drives at local institutions such as the YMCA, the BPD is signaling their intent to not only protect, but to also build trust and rapport with the citizens of Boston. For potential recruits, it’s an opportunity to potentially make a difference from within, and to proactively become a part of the fabric that keeps their community safe.
