Hyde Park's quiet disrupted Tuesday, as Boston Police made a gun and drug bust at a local skate park. Officers from the District E-18 Drug Control Unit arrested 23-year-old Jahzyme Richardson from Randolph after witnessing a suspected drug deal, the Boston Police Department reported on their website.
Patrolling in response to community complaints, officers noticed two vehicles meet in the skate park lot. They moved to quickly investigate what they believed to be a transaction. After stopping both parties, they discovered Richardson had sold marijuana to the other party, an official statement outlined. The police then gave Richardson an exit order from his vehicle and a subsequent frisk led to uncover a more sinister find – a loaded Springfield Armory XD 40 Caliber pistol stashed in a fanny pack along with a duffle bag carrying multiple packages of marijuana prepared for sale.
The handgun Richardson had was no small threat; equipped with seven bullets in the magazine with capability for 12, and one more in the chamber ready to fire. This find came as officers took an increased scrutiny upon the area, seeking to assuage the concerns rocking the once peaceful expanse of Hyde Park.
Richardson now faces multiple charges, including unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of a large capacity feeding device, possession of a firearm during a felony, and distribution of Class D drugs. He is to be arraigned at West Roxbury District Court, the police department confirmed. The arrest serves as a stark reminder that beneath the din of rolling wheels, sometimes lies a silence yearning to once again to peacefully resonate within the community.
