Boston's massive Pride celebration, the largest in New England, is set to paint the town rainbow on Saturday, June 8, 2024. According to NBC Boston, Boston Pride For The People, the volunteer-run organization behind the event, has confirmed the date and is calling for active community involvement.
The 2024 Pride Parade and Festivals are expected to build on last year's success. "We are thrilled to be back for a second year helping our city and region celebrate the LGBTQ+ community’s vibrancy and joy," Adrianna Boulin, president of Boston Pride For The People, told NBC Boston. Last year, the parade saw over a million people in attendance, with more than 250 marching contingents and 215 vendors at the festivals. Despite the magnitude of these numbers, organizers are looking to outdo themselves, in inclusivity and scope.
Those looking to join the celebration beyond spectating have opportunities to roll up their sleeves and help. Boston Pride For The People has put out a call for volunteers across several committees. Interested parties should apply on their website by January 13, 2024. The parade, which starts in Copley Square and makes its way to Boston Common, will be complemented by two festivals catering to all ages and a 21-plus crowd at City Hall Plaza.
Volunteers could find themselves working in various capacities, including accessibility, communications, and parade organization, among others. "We have big goals for this year's parade. We want to continue growing to be more inclusive and welcome even more community organizations," Dan Ortega, parade co-chair for Boston Pride For The People, informed NBC Boston. For those looking to throw financial support behind the events, partnership, and sponsorship details are available via the organization's email contact.
The festivities aim to both celebrate and empower Boston's LGBTQ+ community while galvanizing the very fabric of the city with a powerful display of pride and solidarity. Boston Pride For The People encapsulates this notion with their vision of a Pride that is "built by us and for us," hopefully crafting an unforgettable event steeped in the city's rich culture and diversity.
