
Two kayakers found themselves in a treacherous situation after their vessel capsized off the coast of Bourne, Massachusetts, amidst a severe snowstorm. According to a report from WHDH, the pair were stranded on an island and faced the harsh elements before being rescued by emergency crews. Firefighters deployed inflatable boats and were able to bring the kayakers back to the mainland to safety.
The incident occurred on Sunday when the kayakers were thrown from their boat during the snowstorm's peak, Bourne's Fire Department details the kayakers' ordeal, acknowledging that they waited on Tobys Island after their unexpected immersion in frigid waters. The rescue operation took place in daunting conditions, with the emergency responders battling the bitter cold and high winds to reach the kayakers, who were stuck on the island for approximately an hour.
While the two individuals were brought to shore, one of them did not escape the incident unscathed. According to a Boston 25 News report, one kayaker was suffering from hypothermia upon rescue and had to be transported to an area hospital. The other kayaker was reported to be okay and did not require hospitalization. The names of the individuals have not been made public at this time, and officials have not released any further details regarding the incident.
