The quest for the Miss America crown has taken a lyrical turn as Juliette Valle, a soprano from Broward County, prepares to dazzle the judges with her operatic talent during the national competition in Orlando, with finals concluding on January 14. Valle's journey to the stage is a testament to her hard work and passion for pageantry, a narrative that began at the age of 14 within the Miss America scholarship program's teen division.
In a gala event hosted by the Florida Grand Opera, supporters and enthusiasts rallied behind Miss Florida 2023, Valle, as she fine-tunes her skills for the upcoming contest. "I truly can't believe this is my life, and I can't believe I'm going to Miss America, but I have two more days to process that before I freak out," she told 7News at the Doral Opera Center event. Valle's repertoire extends beyond the stage as she holds titles such as Miss South Florida Fair, Miss Miami, and Miss Orlando to her name.
Juliette Valle stands as a prominent figure not only because of her vocal prowess but also due to her representation of the Hispanic community. If crowned, Valle would be making history as the first Hispanic woman to ever win Miss America in its 102-year existence. Despite the pressure, she's embraced her role, saying, "Representing the Latino population as a whole would be a tremendous opportunity because they are a culture that loves these competitions, but they haven't yet been represented in Miss America, which is such an iconic American competition," Valle said in an interview with 7News.
The local opera community has shown unwavering support for their homegrown talent. "When she said her talent was opera, we're like, 'We're going to be your coach. Grand Florida has to be behind you,'" Maria Togaro, general director of the Florida Grand Opera, expressed her delight at the sendoff event. "We are accompanying her in her progress to the pageant of Miss America. We're very proud of her," she told 7News, as posted on their X account with evident enthusiasm.
