The Marin-Sonoma Narrows B-7 construction project marches on, and it’s bringing late-night closures to a stretch of southbound US-101. Caltrans District 4 announced that the Atherton Avenue on- and off-ramps will be blocked off to traffic starting Monday, Jan. 29 through the early morning of Saturday, Feb. 3, specifically from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m., as reported in a recent Caltrans tweet. The on-ramp will remain inaccessible for the entire duration, while the off-ramp is set to close on Jan. 31, Feb. 1, and Feb. 2.
The closures are necessary to safely move forward with installing new lights and a metering system as part of the ongoing infrastructure overhaul to improve traffic flow and safety. To make their way onto southbound US-101, drivers must quickly adapt and take Redwood Boulevard to the De Long Avenue on-ramp instead. Caltrans advises travelers to plan for the detour, potentially adjusting their schedules to avoid getting snagged in any resultant traffic.
Detours are equally in order for those accustomed to exiting at Atherton Avenue. Caltrans has directed drivers proceed south on US-101 and use the De Long Avenue exit to circle back via Redwood Boulevard. Although slightly lengthier, the detour promises to provide a straightforward alternative route during the operation.
