A 43-year-old Canadian man, Harley Davis from Gatineau, Quebec, celebrated overcoming cancer by walking a staggering 28.6 miles around Boston in a single day, turning his victory lap into an extraordinary 60,000-step "Boston Marathon." Diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2018, Davis defied odds and fatigue to outstep his best friend.

After six tough rounds of chemotherapy, Davis, fueled by the support from his 8-year-old daughter Chloe and a fierce walking competition with his friend Chris Rogers, started to regain his strength while trudging through Hawaii's landscapes, this duo ended up back in the tropical paradise for a full-circle moment following Davis's treatment, reported Boston.com. Davis told the publication, “Chris and I had the idea to go back to Hawaii to bookend the whole chemo experience, and I wasn’t feeling particularly great, but I thought it would be the best kind of place for healing,”

Once in remission, the pair kept to their competitive strides, challenging each other throughout December, racking up steps in a display of supportive rivalry that led Davis to spontaneously drive to Boston and conquer its geography by foot. The trek, which started at midnight, led him through historical landmarks, vibrant neighborhoods, and encounters with the city's residents while he refueled with local eats like pizza and sausages along the way, as per an account by BNN Breaking.

“Boston was just incredible. It’s like every block was just another layer of an onion that was peeling back, another layer of history,” Davis said in a statement obtained by Boston.com. He completed his walk with an impressive step count of 519,209 for the month, surpassing Rogers's 461,768; this feat celebrated with $3 pints of beer. He finished his day at Biddy's, a local dive bar that served as the finish line for his journey, which he eagerly wishes to share with his daughter someday.
