Canton Township Police are on the scene of a death investigation that was initiated in the wee hours of Monday morning, disrupting local traffic patterns. The incident occurred in the residential area of the 39700 block of Koppernick Road, an area typically unaccustomed to such disruptions, nested between Warren and Joy roads near Interstate 275, according to The Detroit News.
One local, Michael Parmelee, 64, who found the scene while walking his dog Tito, expressed his concern to The Detroit News, saying, "I would like to know more before I say this is shocking. All I have heard on TV is that it's a homicide."
The Canton Police Department, without disclosing specifics about the ongoing investigation, assured the community of its safety. "Please know there is no known threat to our community," said Canton Police Chief Chad Baugh in an email obtained by Hometownlife.com. Meanwhile, officials closed Koppernick Road from Holly Drive east to the township's border, advising motorists to seek alternative routes during the investigation.
Further details about the nature of the death or the identity of the deceased have been firmly held close.
Updated reports are expected to emerge. The Canton Police Department's investigation into the early morning death remains ongoing. The public is urged to stay informed and continue to heed road closure advisories posted on the Canton Police Facebook page, as reported by Patch Staff Dylan Siwicki.
