Austin's Capitol Metro is all set to host a celebration for its new Dove Springs Pickup Zone, barely a fortnight after the service kicked off. Set to stage the event at the George Morales Dove Springs Recreation Center on January 26, CapMetro will mark the installment of its 11th such zone in the city, a move aimed at bolstering connectivity across Central Texas.
The Friday morning shindig, kicking off at 10 a.m., will bring together several city and county dignitaries. Expected to grab the mic are Mayor Kirk Watson, City of Austin, Travis County Commissioner and Chair of CapMetro’s Board of Directors Jeff Travillion, Councilmember Vanessa Fuentes, City of Austin, along with Dottie Watkins, the transit agency’s President & CEO. Contributing to local fervor, Dove Springs' Proud founder and president Ricardo Zavala is also slated to speak at the ceremony.
Launched on January 14, the Dove Springs Pickup Zone is already turning heads with strong ridership levels, which according to CapMetro, are only expected to rise. This zone in Southeast Austin isn't just a standalone effort but forms part of the larger Project Connect vision, intended to radically transform transportation in the area. Furthermore, the zone will gain even more traction once it connects with the Pleasant Valley Rapid Line set to be up and running by 2025.
