Carlsbad residents and commuters, brace yourselves for construction zones along the scenic Carlsbad Boulevard but breathe easy knowing it's for a safer stroll and a smoother drive in the near future. The city is kicking off improvements on six pedestrian crosswalks, already completing one in front of the Army and Navy Academy. The revamp couldn't come sooner with a spike in injury collisions in the area. A recent video by the City of Carlsbad shows these upgrades mean business for pedestrian safety.
Having addressed crosswalk safety years prior, the city stacks on additional features to lower those collision numbers. Flashing lights are set to be embedded in the pavement, a beacon for vigilant drivers as pedestrians queue at the crossing. Though construction is scheduled between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. from Monday to Friday, patience will be essential for regular travelers of the boulevard – the works are poised for completion by summertime.
Those behind the wheel, be alert – updated construction zones demand your attention for the crews working and the community's safety on foot or two wheels. It's just as crucial for city residents to stay informed, check the weekly construction map, which only details city projects, and plan accordingly for roads less congested by this inconvenience.
In a plea to the public, city officials enjoin, "Please remember to slow down in construction zones, stay alert for crews as well as people walking, biking and driving in the area."
